CloudSourcing: Petey Clicks of Clicks & Whistles
Incorporating elements of Southern rap, juke, dubstep and drum ‘n’ bass, Charlotte bass technicians Clicks & Whistles — Petey Clicks and Jorge Hernandez — have honed their own ever-expanding sound since joining forces in 2010. Before the pair embark on We Are Massiv., a three-day mini tour of Southern California rounded out by 12th Planet and AC Slater, Petey Clicks took time out to share his five favorite SoundCloud artists of the moment.
We Are Massive. featuring 12th Planet, AC Slater and Clicks & Whistles hits Glass House in Pomona, CA, on November 27; The Fonda Theatre with special guest DJ Craze on December 1; and Bang Bang in San Diego on December 3.
1. Doctor Jeep
Jeep is by far one of the most exciting American producers right now. Between the classic wobble bass sound and the perfect blend of new and old-school sounds, this dude is really one to keep an eye on. Big ups to Trouble & Bass.
AC Slater turned me on to this dude a few months ago. I’m totally in love with all the UK funky vs. dark bassline house vibes. His remix of “Boofy” has been a huge staple of my sets recently.
3. Grenier / DJG
This guy is one of my best friends in the whole world. Keep an eye out for a SECRET COLLABORATIVE PROJECT we have coming out soon. Dean is a master of dark and moody rolling evolving beats, whether it’s dubstep, house or techno.
Jess just put out some serious heat on Trouble & Bass with Burt Fox. Keep an ear to the Internet for her next release on Mixpak — it’s definitely not one to miss.
5. DJ Paypal
Yung Paypal is so illusive and mysterious that I just had to include him in this list. This dude’s music is so refreshing, like a new Gatorade flavor. Paypal’s music is like a perfect audio yin-yang of the past and future.
